I will use half the money to upgrade an old microscope we have to turn it into a video-microscope so that we can use it at outreach events to show people and students microscopic life.
The other half will be used to buy art materials for an outreach event we have coming up at the Edinburgh Science Festival.
I’ve built a DNA sequencer from Lego (You can see it here: https://twitter.com/LiamJPerera/status/1224997777949831169). We use this to sequence alien Lego DNA and then get users to draw their alien. So the money will go to buying more art materials and a large poster board for people to draw their aliens on a giant mural for the science festival.
I live on an island and there aren’t many scientists here. So it would be great to be able to bring some different types of scientists over so that students could meet with them and ask them questions about what they do. A sort of fair where the stalls are scientists and their work! Then students here would get a better idea of what the options are for them and how to go about achieving their dreams.
