      As far as we know, the milky way is a pretty average galaxy, the biggest galaxy we know of is 1000 times bigger than the milky way and is called ‘IC1101’ (Scientists aren’t great at naming things…)

      Hi Yosief! The biggest galaxy has the mass (the weight) of a 100 trillion stars! As the other Sam says, it is called IC1101 (very catchy!) and is a long, long, long way away from our galaxy : -)

      IC1101 managed to get so so big because it formed at the centre of a huge “city of galaxies” and got to keep forming stars and also absorb the gas and stars ripped apart from other nearby galaxies.
